Workplace first aid

Côte d'Ivoire's Labour Code (Law No. 2015-532 of 20 July 2015, article 41.3 on occupational hygiene and safety) requires the employer to organise first aid and designate trained workplace first-aiders (SST) from among the staff, present during working hours. There is no fixed statutory ratio; practice follows a model of at least one first-aider per hazardous workshop or per group of about twenty workers.

Childcare CPR & first aid

No specific legal framework yet governs the care of children aged 0 to 8 in Côte d'Ivoire; a bill has been announced by the Ministry of Women, Family and Children (MFFE, 2024-2025) but, until a text is enacted, no first-aid obligation is formally imposed on crèche and daycare staff. The expected standard remains adults trained in basic first aid for the children in their care.

Healthcare professional recognition

In Côte d'Ivoire the nursing profession is overseen by the Ordre National des Infirmiers et Infirmières de Côte d'Ivoire (ONIICI), established by Law No. 2022-794 of 13 October 2022; because the order is newly created, no national CPD-point scheme tied to licence retention is yet documented. Keeping resuscitation skills current is a matter of professional responsibility and employer expectation, met by any recognized continuing-education activity (CPR/AED, ACLS).

Residential care settings

In Côte d'Ivoire, home care and support services and private retirement homes for older and dependent adults expect their workers to master CPR and first-aid response, an employer-carried requirement in the absence of a single national residential-care standard. The dedicated APS-ASD certificate (Prevention & Rescue Actor – Home Care & Support), together with the PSC1 open to all, is the usual way to meet it, and must be renewed periodically.
